    Open Source @ work: FreeMind

You may have heard of a mindmap and mindmapping, an art in which you make a sort of schema around one central object. And you know that it is something of great value if you know how to use it and how to learn with it. Naturally a mindmap is never finished and you may add some things after you’ve done writing it, this is however an inconviniance and so you want to make it on the computer. I searched long after this program, after something free (as in free beer) because mindmanager costs to much for me to buy and now I want you to have the opportunity to use it.

Here’s a screenshot (click on it to see the big screenshot

    Ubuntu Linux 8.04 has bugs

Currently I’m a Acer travelmate 5610 owner and recently I installed Ubuntu 8.04 and I have to say that the first time I booted it everything worked perfectly fine but the day after I tried to run the laptop and unfortunantly ubuntu didn’t recognize my camera. Because it’s a buildin I cannot tough and deactivate it so my distribution yelling the ears of my head saying that there was a component that it couldn’t load so I tried some tricks like ctrl+c (doesn’t help btw) and crtl + alt + del (which in my case helped) but it gave other errors so I don’t know but Canonical sure has to do something about it, I searched the forums but didn’t came up with a solution and this time I’m not going to search for any, fedora Rocks !!!

    phpbb3 troubles

Well yeah, I’m a bit frustrated by phpbb3, before it was simple to add tags to the template files and let them work and do their job but now phpbb3 has some kind of security and you now can’t run javascript code anymore in the template files so really it sucks.

I know about alternative methodes but it’s just so much work to do it in each template. I don’t feel like doing it right now so it will have to wait.

Booting linux from a external hdd

Booting Linux from an external hdd is something most people don’t dream about doing. Some people however want to have a portable Linux version on a usb stick or a small hdd so they can work on any computer with their own software and have all their documents at their disposal.

Some distributions came up with Linux versions specially made for usb sticks or small external hdd devices but they placed restrictions on the software, some functionalities aren’t available but you don’t need to take a usb key distro any distribution can do the same thing. (More …)

I must say that it it’s already much easiers now to do this. Fedora Core 10 has an integrated function for it and ubuntu is easely handled as well for external harddrives.

    Forums

I’ve been planning them for a while now, Webscriptz.be forums. As a geeck I’m do my fair bit of searching on forums etc after good tutorials and other interesting things I need but what is it that everybody really needs a small forum that hasn’t everything.

    The lite version

The forums will be made with phpbb but that is not the point, I’ve selected some areas that are really popular but sometimes hard to learn (personal experience), but naturally this depends of the individual studying the matter at hand.

When I’m searching for something the information is sometimes hard to get or to understand. Many authors of tutorials don’t necessarily take interest in their readers because, if it is clear to them it is clear to the reader but that isn’t true. So what I want to do is have some basic forums in which we have some subdivisions and where everybody can place their question or tutorial. Afterwords I enlarge it a little bit so that I can regroup the best tutorials for the users.

    Maybe a wiki alike?

No, the wiki is to general and to many people can ‘help’ a hand alto I would may like to make a screencast wiki or blog where the users can have some screencasts at hand wiht the documentation underneath it so they can see exactly what the screen is doing and copy it if they didn’t see the screen

hope you enjey it tomorrow I’ll be installing the forums.

Just to let you know that the forums are installed and everybody is welcome, they are quit little in different subjects but I certainly can’t have all placed on the forums and if there’s demand I’ll just create them

Webscriptz available in 2 other languages

Today I finally took the call of making the site available in miltiple languages like dutch and french.

In fact I now have 3 blogs to manage:

    webscriptz.be :  this blog

    nederlands.webscriptz.be in dutch

francais.webscriptz.be (Guess in which language this could be?)

Now I’ll hae the job of fillinf up the space but don’t worry plenty of time and ideas to fill this up. But don’t go thinking that the other blogs are the same and have the same articles I hope I will have the time to diversify each blog into something unique.
